1 mission: Make Weight Loss Last

What are the questions we often ask people who lose weight and keep it off? We want to know what they did to achieve such success—what they eat, or how much, or perhaps if they exercise or what their lifestyles are.

We are researchers who specialize in preventing and reversing obesity and heart disease through diet and other lifestyle building blocks, such as stress management, strong social support, physical activity, and more. We’ve conducted large clinical trials in both the United States and Europe to discover the “best” way to eat and live in order to promote a health-filled life.

Given our passion for using sound science to help others achieve wellness, we’ve felt particularly sad about the excessive extra weight so many of us struggle with, because being overweight or obese significantly increases the risk not only of developing a chronic condition—from heart disease and diabetes to high blood pressure and more—but also of dying from it.

We know you feel frustrated, too.

A New View

We wondered: Would it be possible to create a sustainable, sound program that could help people attain and maintain weight as part of a pleasurable and normal way of life—not as a restricted regimen that starts, stops, and often ends in failure? As we considered this, we realized that prior to the obesity epidemic that has emerged in the last few decades, most Americans—indeed, most people worldwide—were of normal weight. What, we wondered, had worked for so many of us for so many centuries?

To find out, we took a nutrition journey around the world, unraveling food wisdom from ancient healing systems (such as traditional Chinese medicine and India’s Ayurveda); world religions (which provided guidelines for what and how to eat before science became the signpost in the 20th century); and cultural traditions (from yogic nutrition to the Mediterranean diet, and more). What we discovered is that the true ingredients that make weight loss last are far more multifaceted—and remarkable—than we’ve been led to believe.

We created three blogs for you, each of which we designed to bring you back to a healthier, authentic, soul-satisfying relationship to food, eating, and weight.

  •  NewView posts reveal the personal discoveries and ins and outs of our nutrition journey around the world. In it, we share our optimal eating odyssey with you, so you, too, can think outside the diet and make weight loss last.

With each post, we’ll give you a re-visioning of nutritional health and optimal eating, so that each time you eat, your body, mind, and soul may be nourished by the “new nutrients” we’ve re-discovered that empower you to lose weight and keep it off.
